Previously major smartphone manufacturers– Apple and Samsung had a stranglehold over the smartphone space worldwide. According to recent reports, it appears that a cheaper brand has garnered the highest sales globally this year till now.
Xiaomi has begun to challenge the industry with affordable and mid-tier models, with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 being touted as the best selling smartphone in many countries. The list includes emerging countries of Asia and some parts of Europe. It is temperature-changing consumer behaviour, with buyers making a shift towards value for money and less towards brand loyalty. Value-conscious and mid-tier shoppers gravitated to the Redmi Note 13 because it was the ideal combination of performance, camera capabilities, and competitive pricing.
The iPhone series has always been a force to reckon with. However, as per the reports, it is experiencing a dim in sales compared to previous years. Whereas Realme and Oppo have been challenging their worldwide dominance from below. Competition has been intensifying as these brands sell phones with state-of-the-art specs for somewhat lower prices. And this might continue to disrupt the course of the mobile market in 2025 and beyond.
The overall smartphone sales of 2025 showcase a rapidly changing market. Consumers are willing to switch from an established brand more than ever in search of a better value proposition.
