3 Omega Watch Collections That Must Be on Your Radar

Omega is a prominent Watchmaking brand in the world. This is a subsidiary of the Swatch Group, the world’s biggest watch company. Its first Omega products were developed in 1848, and the Omega brand name followed soon after, quickly establishing a strong presence in the market. Omega produced in-house components to complete watch movements early on.

Omega watches were subsequently used by several major corporations and associations, including the Royal Flying Corps of the United Kingdom, NASA, as well as the Olympics. Omega watches have also appeared in several James Bond films. The Omega Constellation, Omega Seamaster, Omega Speedmaster, Omega De Ville, Omega Dynamic, Omega Skeleton Seamaster, Omega Central Tourbillon DeVille, and Omega Geneve are all prominent Omega watch collections.

Omega Constellation

One of the prominent Omega watch collections is the Omega Constellation. It was the year 1952, but also World War II had only just ended. Omega developed and released the Constellation watch in honor of the Lockheed Constellation jet, also known as Connie, which aided allied forces to achieve victory. Omega Constellation watches were originally available in yellow gold, rose gold, and steel. Omega substituted the Caliber 35x bumper movement with the full rotor Caliber 50x series movement in 1955, as well as added refinements over the years. Although a rectangular version was released in the 1960s, the exterior features of the Omega Constellation watch remained virtually unchanged for nearly two decades.

The Constellation underwent even more changes in the 1970s, redesigning and streamlining its aesthetic and moving the design even further away from the classic dress watch look that made it so famous in the 1950s. At the 1970 Basel Fair, Omega Constellation Megaquartz f2.4 MHz was unveiled. This marine chronometer was available in a few different iterations, all of which were in the 1500 caliber series. These are classified as caliber 1510 and caliber 1511-1516. The Omega Constellation returned to its origins in 1982. The Omega Constellation Manhattan was distinguished by its round case, integrated bracelet, and four giraffes or claws on the case’s side.

Elvis Presley was the most iconic Omega Constellation owner. The King wore a caliber 504 winding chronometer Omega Constellation with a stainless steel casebook, a pink gold cap, and gold hour indices complete with Omega’s trademark luminous inserts while enlisting in the United States Army. Ringo Starr was frequently pictured wearing his Omega Constellation while performing with The Beatles, and Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev is renowned for wearing a gold Constellation Manhattan. Constellations are not only for men: Nicole Kidman is well-known for her Omega Constellation Quadrella watch, and Cindy Crawford is a famous representative of the Constellation Manhattan collection.

Omega Seamaster

The Omega Aqua Terra is a relative newcomer to the Seamaster line, which was first made available in 1948, one hundred years after the beginning of the company. Because of the shock-resistant coaxial escapements, this watch is ideal for active lifestyles. It has the remarkable ability to complement almost any outfit. Even though there are several special editions with distinctive features, at its core, the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra is a classic wristwatch that can be modified by swapping a leather band for a polished bracelet. The Aqua Terra was first presented with Omega’s caliber 2500 movement, but in 2008 this was redesigned to Omega’s caliber 8500 movements.

It was and is available in a variety of finishes, with sizes to fit both men and women. The dial of the Omega Aqua Terra in 2008 displayed a teak pattern. Most versions have a white dial; the Aqua Terra Golf edition, also referred to as the PGA, is one of a few that has a black dial. Green or orange accents can be found on newer Omega PGA models.

Omega Seamaster watches can be detected on the wrists of many famous people. When George Clooney attended the 74th Venice Film Festival in Italy, he wore an Aqua Terra watch. Frank Reich, the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, was seen wearing an Omega Aqua Terra with a blue rubber strap to match his team’s colors. Rory McIlroy, who won the FedEx Cup while wearing an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M Co-Axial GMT, is another noticeable wearer.

Omega Speedmaster

Omega’s first Speedmaster premiered in 1957, with the introduction of Ref. CK2915, an exhilarating chronograph designed for sports and auto racing. The first Speedmaster, which featured a triple-register dial, was operated by Omega’s Calibre 321 movement, which was devised by Albert Piguet in 1946. During the Mercury-Atlas 8 space flight, astronaut Wally Schirra wore his Speedmaster Ref. CK2915. When his watch survived the ordeal, NASA decided to include Omega to be one of three brands to be evaluated in harsh environments. The reason for this project was to determine which watch brand astronauts would wear into space in the future. Omega was overjoyed to have won the honors.

After NASA selected the Speedmaster for future space missions, Omega changed its name and rebranded it as the Omega Speedmaster Professional. When the Speedmaster reference ST105.12 was published, the word Professional first appeared on the dial. The Omega Speedmaster Professional was NASA’s official watch, and it was worn on the 1965 Gemini missions, as well as the Apollo missions that continued till 1972. During the Apollo 11 mission in 1969, a spacecraft instrument known as the mission timer failed. Neil Armstrong replaced his watch with an Omega Speedmaster Professional. On the first lunar walk, Buzz Aldrin wore his Speedmaster, but Armstrong’s watch stayed within the spacecraft.

Since that momentous occasion, the Omega Speedmaster Professional has proudly carried the moniker “Moonwatch.” Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin donned Omega Speedmaster Professional watches till the age of 89, and Aldrin was named the brand ambassador as a result of his famous moonwalk. Other famous wearers are Rory McIlroy, winner of the 2019 Players Championship, who wore a 1989 Speedmaster Professional to a press conference, Dire Straits’ Mark Knopfler, and Top Gear host Richard Hammond. The Omega Speedmaster Professional is a favorite of His Royal Highness Willem-Alexander, King of the Netherlands.

Takeaway

Omega watch collections have been evaluated numerous times and have consistently proven to be highly credible, breaking numerous records during evaluation. They use the most advanced modern manufacturing and materials, and these watches are designed to withstand harsh conditions. Having one is unquestionably amazing, as proven by famous people.
