Danny Masterson, 47, who is known for playing the role of Steven Hyde in That ’70s Show, was accused of two counts of rape on Wednesday, 31 May 2023 in a retrial in Los Angeles where the Church of Scientology played a major part.
After debating for seven days over two weeks, the jury of seven women and five-man came to the decision; however, the jury was unable to reach a verdict on the third point, which accused Danny of sexually assaulting his longtime girlfriend. Masterson was taken into custody and faced a sentence of 30 years in prison. The wife of Danny Masterson, Bijou Philips, who is an actor and model, was spotted crying outside the court as her husband was being handcuffed.
According to the allegations, Danny (47) brutally assaulted three women in his hometown of Hollywood Hills between 2001 and 2003. The woman who testified against him claimed that in 2003, after providing them with beverages, he physically raped them while they were drunk.
One of Masterson’s accusers, N. Trout, stated in a press release issued by a PR firm for attorneys who are defending her in a lawsuit against Masterson and the Church of Scientology,
I am experiencing a complex array of emotions — relief, exhaustion, strength, sadness — knowing that my abuser, Danny Masterson, will face accountability for his criminal behavior,”
In the same statement, another accused, Christina B, claimed to have been raped by Masterson in 2001 when they were dating. Christina B. said she was “devastated” by the jury’s impasse.
The third accuser, Jen B, after the jury deadlocked on the charge that Masterson raped her, stated,
Despite my disappointment in this outcome, I remain determined to secure justice, including in civil court, where I, along with my co-plaintiffs, will shine a light on how Scientology and other conspirators enabled and sought to cover up Masterson’s monstrous behavior.”
