CW’s new leadership is taking a different business strategy under which only four existing scripted shows with outstanding ratings are getting a renewal. Unfortunately Gotham Knights did not make the cut. The show is being canceled by CW after only one season. Superman & Lois which is another DC inspired CW show, is getting renewed for a fourth season which will have 10 episodes.

Gotham Knights is based on characters created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger. The CW show was written by Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux, and Natalie Abrams. The show starts in the aftermath of Bruce Wayne’s murder. His adopted son Turner Hayes forms an alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies who are framed for the murder of Batman. The show had decent ratings with better than average viewership. However, it did not make the cut for a renewal.

On the other hand, Superman & Lois which deals with the struggles of Clark Kent and Lois Lane as working parents got renewed. The show’s unorthodox plot and fun treatment of the characters made it a solid contender for a renewal. The writers of Superman & Lois include Greg Berlanti, Brent Fletcher, Nadria Tucker, Elaine Mongeon and Adam Mallinger. Another show that got renewed is All American: Homecoming, a young adult sports drama.

The conclusion of Gotham Knights will leave Superman & Lois as the only DC adaptation to run on CW. The season finale of Gotham Knights will air on June 27.
