Boston Celtics have etched their names in NBA history, becoming one of only four teams to force a Game 7 after trailing 3-0 in the playoffs. While their fight back is already a story for the ages, it is Jayson Tatum who has basketball fans buzzing. The 25 year old Tatum now stands on the precipice of breaking LeBron James’ single-season playoff record

In Game 6 against the Miami Heat, Jayson Tatum recorded his seventh 30-point, 10-rebound, and five-assist game of the 2023 NBA Playoffs. With this stellar achievement Tatum has tied James’ record set during the Cleveland Cavaliers’ memorable 2018 playoff run.

In a game marked with below average shooting, Tatum’s impact on the court was undeniable. While he converted only 8 of his 22 shots from the field, Tatum compensated by pulling off an incredible performance at the free-throw line, going a perfect 15-of-15.

Tatum’s versatility extended beyond his scoring output. Tatum collected 12 rebounds, nine of which came on the defensive end. His playmaking skills were also on display as he dished out five assists by drawing defenders away from his teammates. He also had two blocks and a steal, demonstrating his impact on both ends of the court. Notably, Tatum’s presence on the court translated to a +3 rating in the plus-minus box score.

Whether Jayson Tatum surpasses the record set by LeBron James in the playoffs remains to be seen. His primary focus is guiding the Celtics to complete their remarkable 3-0 comeback bid in the highly anticipated Game 7.

Tatum has proven to be a force to be reckoned with. His remarkable scoring, rebounding, playmaking, and defensive contributions are central to the rise of the Celtics. As the Celtics gear up for the crucial Game 7, all eyes will be on Tatum.
