Prepare to be dazzled by Zack Snyder’s incredible new sci-fi movie series — to be available on Netflix this winter
Director Zack Snyder is joining forces with Netflix to craft two spectacular sci-fi films, Rebel Moon Part 1 and 2. This ambitious production promises to be on par with Star Wars in its magnitude and grandeur. With December 2023 now confirmed as the official launch date for Rebel Moon, let’s explore what wonders this movie has in store.
Zack Snyder returns to the director’s chair and brings his old collaborators back with him for Rebel Moon. Shay Hatten, a co-writer of Army of the Dead, joins forces with Kurt Johnstad who wrote 300 together.
The Stone Quarry is the leading production company behind the movie. Grand Electric, Eric Newman’s production company with an exclusive contract from Netflix, also has its name in the credits.
In a THR interview, Snyder revealed the source of his creative motivation for Rebel Moon: “This is me growing up as an Akira Kurosawa fan, a Star Wars fan. It’s my love of sci-fi and a giant adventure.”
Zack Snyder and his producing partner/wife Deborah Snyder, will create Rebel Moon through Stone Quarry with Wesley Coller. Eric Newman of Grand Electric Films, who was an executive producer on Zack’s 2004 movie Dawn of the Dead, will also be a part of this project.
Netflix executive Ori Marmur is the one to bring the project to life.
Rebel Moon Release Date
On January 18th, 2023, Netflix announced their movie slate for the year and confirmed that Rebel Moon will be made available worldwide on December 22nd 2023.

Rebel Moon Plot
The Hollywood Reporter has unveiled the narrative synopsis for Netflix’s Rebel Moon.
A tyrannical regent named Balisarius threatens a tranquil colony on the margins of space. In response, they send out an intrepid young woman with an enigmatic past to find warriors from nearby planets who can come to their rescue. Thus begins Rebel Moon’s captivating saga.
This movie draws from Star Wars and it used to be a pitch for the franchise over ten years ago.
In November 2021, additional plot details about the movie’s storyline were released to the public: “The film is set in a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius. They dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them take a stand the Tyrant.”
