Only Murders In The Building 2 Review: Quite Chaotic, But Still a Must-Watch

Not even one year has passed since the Only Murders in the Building Season 2 release. Fans are already anticipating the next season. And the date of Only Murders in the Building Season 2 release has been fixed to June 28, 2022. Season 1 of the 10-episode series premiered on Hulu on August 31, 2022.

Only Murders in the Building cast includes the veteran actors- Steve Martin, Martin Short, and the famous pop-star Selena Gomez. The spectacular coordination of this trio made it to return in the cast of Only Murders in the Building season 2. And the cast, combined with the writing skills of John Hoffman and Steve Martin, brought out a decent pick to watch.

It’s a crime-comedy series set in an apartment building in New York, Arconia. The first season received tremendous applause from the viewers. And this made the makers of the series come up with Only Murders in the Building 2 so soon. No doubt the first season was such a delight with the perfect blend of comedy and crime. But it seems that the hurry in which season 2 was made is costing a bit in terms of its impact.

What Is The Plot Of Season 1?

Season 1 depicted three people- a theater director, Oliver, Charles , and Mabel. All are the residents of the building Arconia. Another thing common in all three of them is their disappointing lives either personally or professionally. But then the murder of Tim Kono (played by Julian Cihi) brings them together to solve this crime mystery. And it turns out that the culprit was none other than Charles’ girlfriend (played by Amy Ryan).

In the ending, Mabel is seen beside the dead body of Arconia’s board president, Bunny (played by Jayne Houdyshell). Since she was always in conflict with the trio, the police are seen arresting all three of them. Overall, the first season was perfect from the storyline to the dialogue delivery.

The Plot Of Season 2

Only Murders in the Building Season 2 starts from exactly where the first season ended. The police are interrogating the trio while they try to explain. And this makes them all the more determined to solve the crime mystery. But it doesn’t mean that the humor is not there. While it still makes a good comedy crime drama, some of its jokes get flat at times. And it seems like the dialogues were written in a bit of a rush.

Also, as the story advances, it provides insights into the characters like the bunny and the other residents. The linking of Charles’s family’s painting and other things with the murder is another plot in this season. Some flashbacks are presented and a love plot with Mabel is also there. All this together makes it a bit confusing as well as distracting. So do the moods of the season. It’s hard for a viewer to represent it in a single term.

Although the Only Murders in the Building reviews of season 1 were fabulous, season 2 falls somewhat behind it. Still, it has got some of its charms retained like the acting. The outstanding acting of Steve Martin and Martin Short is on point this time too.

The release date of the first two Only Murders in the Building episodes on Hulu and others like Disney+ is June 28.
