Open AI Launches ChatGPT App for iOS in the US with Plans to Release the App in Other Countries

ChatGPT, the hyper-disruptive language AI tool now has an app for iOS. Open AI has announced the launch of the ChatGPT application in the United States on Thursday. The launch of the app comes six months after the tool was released for the web. ChatGPT acquired 100 million users in 2 months, a feat which took TikTok 9 months to achieve. Between February and April 2023 the site had 1.8 billion visitors per month.

ChatGPT is an AI language model that can create human-like written responses based on prompts made by human users. It has been trained on a diverse range of texts to generate coherent and contextually relevant answers. In fact, one of the last two sentences was written by ChatGPT. The launch of ChatGPT has given people open and free access to a powerful AI tool and it has also prompted the rise of many AI tools that generate textual or visual responses to prompts.

Those who have a $20 subscription to ChatGPT’s web version will have similar benefits on the app as well – access to GPT-4 capabilities. Earlier people had to use a browser to access the tool from their phones.

Notably, in this week itself, the CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman has testified before Congress that AI technologies current uprising is a “printing press moment” but one that if goes unregulated can pose risks to the society. Nonetheless, the AI arms race is on as Google opens a wait-list to access its AI-chatbot BARD. The ChatGPT app will definitely add to the popularity of the tool and sharpen the competitive edge in favor of OpenAI.
