‘Penny Dreadful’ Was Cancelled After 3 Seasons Got Premiered

Penny Dreadful was one of the best horror television series that was created by John Logan. This series was primarily a treat of goths all around the world. In a nutshell, the showtime series pays tribute to Penny Dreadful that was specialized in tales of horror and adventure that was printed back in the 19th century in England.

 With the classic monsters and more slow-burn horror stories, this was the series that ended after 3 seasons in 2016. In the short run of its journey, Penny Dreadful became one of the most loved series by the people. This series achieved great success and was loved by the fans so much that it had the highest ratings at that time. Season 2 of this show also managed to get 100% ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. Fans still remember that conclusion of the series and say that it disappointed them more than the surprise.

Why was the ending of Penny Dreadful controversial?

The ending part of this series left many of the people frustrated after the horror mash-up breathed its last on June 19, 2016. The creator of this series brought some terrifying characters in the last part to weave a story of Penny Dreadful. 

The series features Dorian Gray from Oscar Wilde’s, Mina Harker, Abraham Van Helsing, John Seward, Renfield, and Count Dracula. Victor Frankenstein and his monster were also there in this series Penny Dreadful. The series is having a controversial finale because in the last season Vanessa, after being bitten by Dracula sees Ethan Chandler, the love interest of hers and a werewolf that translated to the wolf of god. She requests to kill her and he agrees to do it. Hence, Ethan kills Vanessa, so that she can connect with the god.

The creative decision to kill Vanessa left the people to argue a lot about the series. The fans of the series argued that the ending left too many characters’ fates up in the air. Her death at the hands of Ethan was not at all acceptable and was a heartbreaking ending by a controversial one as well.

Why was Penny Dreadful cancelled after three seasons of premiering?

David Nevins, the president of Showtime opened up to his decision why he decided to ax the horror series Penny Dreadful after three seasons. He said to Variety, that this is because John convinced me that this was the right end and the perfect time for the ending. He told me that it gives closure to the character of Vanessa. Hence, this is the only reason why Penny Dreadful was cancelled after the three seasons.
