Pros & Cons of Relocating to Slovakia: Should You Move Here?

In July 2022, the average price of an apartment in Bratislava was €3802 per m2. It means that for a 70 meters square apartment, you would have to pay €266k (approx.) on average.

Prices between €70,000 and €80,000 for a one-room apartment or €130k for three-bedroom apartments may be real as an average for the whole of Slovakia, but in Bratislava, the cost is much higher.

A one-room apartment in Slovakia costs €70,000 – €80,000 while an apartment with three bedrooms typically costs 130 thousand euros. In comparison to prices in other large cities, this is significantly less expensive.

Let us look at the pros and cons of relocating to Slovakia

PROS

  1. Location

One of the main advantages of living in Bratislava is its fantastic location! It’s very easy to visit large European capitals like Vienna (1 hour by bus), Budapest (3 hours by train), Prague (4 hours by train) from Bratislava, and even Brno (under 1 hour) are all easily accessible.

  1. Easy to Find Jobs

If you’re looking for a job in Bratislava and don’t speak Slovak, don’t worry! Many of the city’s top firms are English-speaking and always searching for new employees. Amazon, IBM, Dell, and Johnson Controls, to name a few, have operations in Bratislava.

  1. It’s the Best of Both Worlds

While Bratislava has all the makings of a capital city, different events and concerts, a party zone, nightlife, language schools, and shopping centers, it is more relaxed than other large cities.

CONS

  1. Weather

Many people don’t realize how drastic the temperature swings are in Slovakia. In winter, it can get as cold as 15 degrees below zero, and in summer, it can be 40 degrees Celsius.

  1. Communication

Slovak can be a little challenging for speakers of English and Spanish to learn because it has intricate grammar, phonetics, and vocabulary.

3. Far from the Sea

One downside is its lack of coastline; the nearest ocean is six hours away. For people who love sea-based activities like swimming or going to the beach, this will be tough to get used to.
