Having and beautiful and attractive website the requirement of every business. But just think for a minute. Is building a website enough? There are basically five activities which a search engine performs to deliver your result.

  • Crawling

There are plenty of web pages on a website. So, the search engine first fetches all the web pages linked to a website. This task is performed by software called Crawler or Spider. It is Googlebot in case of Google.

  • Indexing

Indexing is the process of creating the list or index of all the web pages that have been fetched by the crawler and then keeping it into a database from where it can be retrieved when a user will search the relevant query. Essentially, indexing is identifying the content in the webpage and then assigning the page a particular keyword.

  • Processing

When a user enters his/her query (known as the keyword in SEO) in search engine, the search engine processes it. It compares the search string in the search request with the indexed pages in the databases.

  • Calculating Relevancy

There is a possibility that more than one web page can contain the same search string. So, the search engine calculates the relevancy of each web page with the same search string that is available in the index of the database.

  • Retrieving Results

The last step in the search activity is the retrieving the best-matched result. It is simply displaying them in the browser. So this was all about the search engine activities.

Now, let’s focus on some strategies which will help in ranking your website.

  • Keywords play a very important role in SEO. So, it should be placed in the proper place. The best place where a keyword should be there is in the title, Meta description, Meta keyword, headings (h1), anchor text, in the body of the content etc.
  • After keyword, just focus on your content because golden rule of SEO is said that “Content is the King’’. Your content of the website should be of high quality and unique so that it can engage readers.
  • The entire website should be created and structured according to the guideline of W3C which in return will help in ranking. Following the above tips will definitely help you in ranking your website.
