NetherRealm and WB Games have unveiled the new Mortal Kombat 1, the name itself declares a rift from the previous games of the franchise. You’d expect the game to be Mortal Kombat 12 and not 1. The game will supposedly feature new fighting mechanics and game modes. There will be well known characters from the old game who’ll appear mid-fight to help you. The gore and the fatalities are retained, of course, as confirmed by the recently released teaser trailer.
While the game maintains continuity with Mortal Kombat 11 and its expansion Aftermath, players may have to re-imagine their strategy to play this game. No wonder NetherRealm and WB Games are trying to up the ante. Prime competitor Capcom has made some serious improvement to their Street Fighter 6 which is to release in June.
Mortal Kombat 1 will arrive for PC, PS5, Switch and Xbox Series X/ S on September 19th 2023. Those who pre-order the game will have the opportunity to play a beta in August. With a $110 digital premium, you can have early access to the game on September 14th. You will also get a Johnny Cage skin modeled after the actor Jean-Claude Van Damne. You will also receive early access to characters and Kameo fighters.
There’s more for you if you are that special kind of fan who doesn’t mind paying the price to build a collection. For $250, you get the physical Kollector’s Edition that comes with a 16.5-inch sculpture of Liu Kang with a matching in-game skin, art prints and a special case.
For those who are uninitiated, Mortal Kombat has a history dating back to 1992. The game has evolved and expanded over time with adaptations and spin offs across different media platforms. The graphic violence, solid fighting mechanics, and iconic characters have kept the fans hooked for years.
