The world of Warhammer is about to enter the stage of real-time strategy with Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin. Frontier Developments, known for their impressive titles like Elite: Dangerous and Jurassic World Evolution, have created Realms of Ruin. The game promises to offer a fresh take on the classic RTS genre.
The game, Realms of Ruin is set in a place called the Realm of Ghur, also known as the Realm of Beasts. This rather savage realm appeared out of the destruction of the setting of the Warhammer Fantasy Battle tabletop wargame from 2015. Gavin Thorpe who is a seasoned designer at Games Workshop is in charge of crafting the narrative of the game. He’s also an accomplished author within the Black Library collection of novels and graphic novels.
The gameplay mechanics draw inspiration from classic RTS games like Starcraft, Command and Conquer, and Age of Empires. It focuses on key map control, resource gathering, and strategic attacks. Players get a top-down perspective. Your objective as a commander is to seize crucial map locations, manage resources, and dismantle enemy command posts.
Realms of Ruins will have a bunch of different factions, two of which have been revealed so far – The superhuman Stormcast Eternals, and the cunning Orruk Kruleboyz. In the exclusive preview by Polygon showcased a fierce clash between these two factions.
The official release date for Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin is yet to be declared by Frontier Developments. The beta sessions are also unannounced as yet. This game is Frontier’s first venture into the real-time strategy genre – a field that has experienced a massive resurgence in recent years.
Early 2000s were considered the golden age of RTS games. The popularity of these games has declined since. Nevertheless, the genre continues to thrive with innovative titles.
