What’s in for Mark and His Friends in Invincible Season 2?

What's in for Mark and His Friends in Invincible Season 2?

When Amazon Prime Video’s Invincible dropped, it had such a huge response from viewers that they immediately began demanding the second season before the first one had even finished airing.

It’s a good thing Amazon Prime Video listened to its fans, as once the petitions and hashtags started pouring in to get us Season 2 and 3, it was renewed in April 2021.

It seems like new episodes of The Walking Dead are in the works, which isn’t too surprising given Robert Kirkman’s previous hints. It’ll take some doing to make this happen, though.

The Walking Dead writer said while speaking with Collider about the show’s creation, “The production timeline is somewhat daunting. I think that we spend a number of years developing and working on this season. As we hopefully move into season two and beyond, things will tighten.”

In the following article, we are going to take a look at the plot, potential release date, cast, and trailer of the show. So, let’s get started!

Invincible Season 2 Release Date

Sadly, we’re more than a year after the renewal announcement, and we still don’t know when the show will actually air.

As of December 2022, there is still no confirmation that the second season will be arriving in the near future. We hope to hear more soon.

Amazon is playing its cards close to its chest. Luckily, Khary Payton (Markus Grimshaw/Black Samson) provided a key reveal with regard to season two’s progress in September 2022 (via SuperheroHype).

Payton said, “We finished season two. We’re on to season three. But it’s so hard to say right now. There was a glut of animation studios just trying to get so much done and literally it was like, projects sitting there with a backpack full of material. They’re like, ‘Anytime you’re ready.”

Payton further went on to add, “I am so glad they greenlit two and three at the same time because that means when 3 comes out, it will feel like just next season, and not like, a lifetime.”

In all fairness, Robert Kirkman had his hands full with the upcoming TWD season finale, which wrapped all filming in March 2022.

Kirkman live-tweeted through the first episode upon airing. He also gave a status update on working with the other writers on season two.

Kirkman stated, “I need to get back to work on season 2 (and 3)! I actually have a script due soon! Wish me luck!” he wrote. “And thanks for reading along! I love you all!”

Despite some setbacks, the second and third seasons were evidently in development for quite some time. Steven Yeun, who plays lead actor Mark Grayson/Invincible released a video of himself in the recording booth in April 2022.

Invincible tweeted, “With how many lines he has, his vocal cords really will need to be…” Simon Racioppa admitted, “We’ve been working on it for a while”, during a chat with the head writer of TechRadar.

Racioppa gave us more details on the progress of Invincible season two during an interview with comicbookmovie.com. He said, “I think you’re going to be very happy with it. I hope so. We want to make it as badly as everyone wants to see it. We’re deep in. I wish it was already done and I wish it was finished, but it’s just not. We’re deep into it.”

Thing is, animation takes a while (just to really drive home Racioppa’s point). It is yet unclear if they’re also working on seasons two and three at the same time to reduce the release time between them. However, keeping this in mind, we are not likely to get any information until at least 2023.

Invincible Plot

Mark’s world got completely turned upside-down in the last episode. His father, Omni-Man, destroyed not only their family but also half of Chicago. And although he’s gone, for now, Nolan will eventually return with the full might of the Viltrumite race and wishes to claim Earth as part of their alien empire.

The final episode features Cecil asking Mark to take his father’s place as the Earth’s champion. However, Mark’s initial reluctance will soon change. Meanwhile, Mark is also going to finish high school, though this may be difficult to do with all of the threats coming his way.

What's in for Mark and His Friends in Invincible Season 2?

The Invincible season 1 finale was not a low point for the protagonist. Warping the timeline slightly, it showcased a number of new foes, including titan forming new alliances. The pink aliens take over Mars and the white tiger guy is still on the loose. Furthermore, Cecil has risked everything by contacting a scientist to create more cyborg henchmen. This could potentially be done in order to stop Nolan when he finally arrives.

Season 2 should pick up this plot thread. Mark will be tasked with keeping Earth safe from the invading Viltrumites, as well as helping the Coalition of Planets stop the former from carrying out their universe-wide expansion. Mark realized that a fleet was on its way thanks to Allen’s warning and, as Allen became more prominent in the comics from this point on, their friendship eventually strengthened.
