Pursuing training after an apprenticeship is an excellent way to both network and develop skills in a more niche area, which can dramatically increase our chance of finding high paying work and work that aligns more with your interests. Continuing to upskill after your apprenticeship
Whether you’re considering something like a diploma in project management or a Cert IV in Building and Construction, studying after you’ve finished your apprenticeship can open a lot of exciting doors. Much of the time, pursuing a Cert IV in a field that you’re already well-versed in has the advantage of allowing you to take your skills to the next level, and learn what any of the higher ups already know. In the case of something like the Diploma in Building and Construction, the student will be actively learning how to supervise and manage construction work, which will fast-track them on their career trajectory. Although you might think that you don’t have the time to go back and study, these courses are actually offered part-time to ensure that even the busiest tradies can have the time on hand to advance their learning. In this case, there are also options for both in-person and online courses, as each kind of course will likely suit different people in different ways. If someone chooses to study in-person, they will usually need to attend night classes a few times a week, saving time for home assignments, and if someone was studying online, they are able to access the information they need whenever they want (although this learning style is difficult for some).
What you can expect after obtaining a Diploma or Cert IV
As you might have assumed, career opportunities are much improved with more qualifications. After taking these courses, many people opt to start their own business and become their own boss with the know-how they develop. After all, if you’re studying to supervise other people, you’ll very easily learn the fundamentals of managing yourself!
