Arnold Schwarzenegger starrer FUBAR has been a raging success in its first week on Netflix. Although we haven’t received the detailed viewership data yet, FUBAR’s performance is quite evident from its ranking across the globe. The series is placed in the top 10 list of 89 countries and it earned the top spot in 78 of those countries. Despite the tremendous reception, Netflix has not announced a renewal of the action comedy for a second season as yet.

The writer of Prison Break, Nick Santora created the first season of FUBAR. Netflix had to compete in a tight bid war to acquire the series. The hype is quite natural as FUBAR is Schwarzenegger’s first television project in a career spanning five decades. Considering the early reception, one could expect Netflix to announce a renewal. But it is a bit more complicated than that.

Netflix will use its deep algorithms to analyze viewership and behavioral data over several weeks to judge the true potential of the series and assess whether a renewal would be a good bet. Oftentimes, the sequel of a brilliantly successful show tanks owing to the lack of depth in the material. Netflix may even choose to forego a second season to avoid repetitiveness.

FUBAR Season 2 Update

Nevertheless, should Netflix decide to commission a second season, there are a lot of questions and ideas that can be explored. The story of FUBAR follows the story of a father and a daughter who are both CIA agents without each other’s knowledge. When the truth is revealed, complexities (hilarious ones) follow. Add to that a secret double agent, and criminals who have identified and want to eliminate a team of CIA agents. The show is filled with explosive action, and puts the protagonists through numerous near-death encounters without ever losing humor.

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s comic timing is well documented in many films. Here as the big man tries to blend into the crowd to shake off dangerous stalkers and criminals, hilarity ensues. There are ample twists and turns in the show that captivate the audience regardless of their age. A season 2 for this show could be lit.

There was little over a 12 month gap between the commencement of filming and the release of the first season of FUBAR. So, even if Netflix decides to bring out the next season, we can’t expect it before late 2024 or early 2025.
