He formed a band called, Cody Johnson band, with his dad in 2006. The father-son duo was joined by drummer Nathan Reedy. The band’s first professional album, titled ‘Six Strings One Dream,’ dropped in 2009 and three of its songs made their place in the top 10 of the Texas music charts. In 2012, the band, which now included Reedy, Jeff Smith, Jody Bartula, and bassist Joey Pruski, changed its name to the Rockin’ CJB.

Since then, many of Cody’s albums and singles reached the Billboard charts. Almost six years ago, in March 2018, he made history at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo by becoming the first-ever independent artist to play to a sold-out crowd.
