British actor James Bye is known popularly for his role as Martin Fowler in EastEnders. Born in Basingstoke, he has been a part of the BBC One soap opera from 2014 to 2025.

James Bye was born to Leonard and Pauline in 1984 in England. James, along with his wife, Victoria Bye, has four children: Edward, Louis, Hugo, and Rufus. Career
In 2006, Bye started his career as Tom Burrows in an episode of The Bill. After that, he appeared in Cemetery Junction in 2010, followed by roles in films Hummingbird in 2013, The Hooligan Factory in 2014, and in the miniseries The Great Train Robbery in 2013.
To date, his most prominent acting role has been in BBC One’s soap opera EastEnders. His role as Martin Fowler won the hearts of many in Britain and beyond. But his character was killed off in the show’s 40th anniversary in 2025 due to his frequent absence.
Bye has also taken part in the dancing show Strictly Come Dancing in 2022. He is currently playing the part of Mr. Darcy in P.D. James’s novel Death Comes To Pemberley. He is touring for this stage adaptation in the UK from 1 May to 13 September 2025.

Recently, James Bye came under public scrutiny when his 2-year-old toddler, Rufus, was rushed to the hospital after accidentally consuming a serious toxic plant. The youngest son needed immediate medical attention after he had episodes of projectile vomiting.
Soon after it, Victoria posted on Instagram, “So, after spending the night in hospital (I swear they’ll start charging us rent soon), after Rufus decided to snack on a plant in the garden — one I didn’t even know was dangerous. All hell let loose.”
She also provided a list of some of the toxic plants found commonly in UK gardens for other parents to watch out for! As of yet, James’s son is stable and is soon to return to normal life.
