Born in Taipei, Taiwan; he moved to the United States with his family at the age of seven. After settling in Illinois, he completed his middle school education at River Trails Middle School in Mount Prospect. Further, he joined John Hersey High School in Arlington Heights for high school freshmen year. The last three years of Steve Chen’s education were completed at Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy in Aurora, Illinois. Then, he studied computer science at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Professional career
In his initial career, he worked at PayPal where he met Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim. Chen was one of the first product engineers at PayPal. Moreover, he played a crucial role as the engineering manager on many projects.
