Joseph Glenn Herbert Sr., known by his stage name Jo Koy, is an American stand-up comedian and actor. He came into the limelight after he participated in E!’s late-night show Chelsea Lately.
Biography
Jo Koy was born on June 2, 1971 (age 54 years; as of 2026) in Tacoma, Washington, United States. In his growing years, his family moved from Spanaway, Washington, to Tacoma, Washington and Las Vegas, respectively. Consequently, he attended Spanaway Lake High School and Foss High School in Tacoma. After graduating from high school, Koy enrolled at the University of Nevada, Los Angeles; however, he dropped out to pursue a comedy career.

In 1994, following dropping out of his university, he began his stand-up comedy career at a comedy club in Las Vegas. Soon after, he moved from open mic night to a regular night spot on the show Catch a Rising Star at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino.
A talent coordinator from Los Angeles spotted Koy for his first television appearance, Comic View.
Subsequently, he has made his appearance in shows like Jamie Foxx Presents: Laffapalooza, Showtime at the Apollo, I Love the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, Tru TV’s World’s Dumbest and New Millennium episodes, Amp’d Mobile phone commercials and received a second invite to the Montreal comedy festival Just For Laughs, the series for which he was awarded Canada’s prestigious Gemini Award.

In 2013, Jo Koy made his television debut with the American sitcom Family Tools, wherein he played Berrick. Subsequently, in 2020, he featured in the American sitcom Mr Iglesias, in which he played Bob. Meanwhile, in recent years, he has worked on the TV shows Reindeer in Here and Awkwafina is Nora from Queens.

In the year 2018, a highly talented actor made his debut in the film industry with a movie titled Virginia, where he brilliantly portrayed the character of Chester Blind. In the same year, he also worked in another film called Wake, where he played the role of Peter Lewis, showcasing his versatile acting skills.
