Biography
Emmanuel Gazmey Santiago was born on November 26, 1992 (age 31 years; as of 2023) in Carolina, Puerto Rico. For his schooling, Anuel AA attended María Auxiliadora School, in Carolina. Meanwhile, there are not many details available about his formal education.
Exposed to the musical industry since childhood, his father worked in the studio with Salsa artists such as Hector Lavoe and Fania All-Stars. Meanwhile, growing up, Anuel idolised the American rapper, Tupac Shakur. Despite a troubled life in growing years, Anuel often participated in several events in his college.

Career
Fascinated by music since childhood, Anuel began recording music at fourteen. When he turned eighteen, he started posting it online at age eighteen. Following his music went online, it gained millions of likes. Later, Anuel’s music came across the American rapper Rick Ross who signed him to the Latin division of Maybach Music Group.
In 2018, following his release from prison, he released his debut album, Real Hasta La Muerte. With several accolades, the album peaked at number 42 on Billboard 200 and topped the US Top Latin Charts. Subsequently, has lent his voice to many albums including Emmanuel (2020), Las Leyendas Nunca Mueren (2021), and LVM2 (2022).

Controversies
Arrested for Illegal Possession of Firearms
In 2016, two years after Anuel stepped into the musical industry, a case was filed against Anuel for illegal possession of three firearms. After he was found guilty, he was arrested in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico and was sentenced to thirty months in prison.
Criticised for Diss Track, Intocable
In 2018, Anuel released a diss track, Intocable which was aimed at the famous rapper, Cosculluela. Nevertheless, soon after its release, it was heavily criticised owing to its derogatory remarks about HIV patients and homosexuality. While in the song, he was heard referring to model La Taina as a pig for her HIV-positive status. Nevertheless, owing to controversy, Anuel’s concert at Coliseo de Puerto Rico was cancelled. Subsequently, Anuel issued an apology for the same, “It is the worst mistake of my career. I do not need this and I apologise to all the people I offended. To homosexuals, to people with AIDS, to La Taína [the model] and to those who lost everything after Hurricane Maria … My fans deserve me to be a better person, and I apologise to everyone in Puerto Rico.”
