Academy Award winner Cillian Murphy is all set to return to the world of Peaky Blinders. An upcoming movie that will star Murphy as Thomas Shelby has been given a green light by Netflix. His character is a war hero’s transition into a gangster who reaches the top of the crime world in Birmingham in the 1900s. There are no details about the plot of the upcoming movie; however, it is said to be a continuation of the Netflix series.
The film is written by none other than the creator of Peaky Blinders, Steven Knight. In addition, Tom Harper, who directed the first installment of the series, will play the same role in the film.
Steven Knight will co-produce the film alongside Caryn Mandabach, Murphy, and Guy Heeley. In addition, the film will be made in association with BBC Film.
Deadline reported Murphy saying that Thomas Shelby was not finished with him. The 48-year-old actor stated,
It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders.
This is one for the fans.
Steven Knight said,
I’m genuinely thrilled that this movie is about to happen. It will be an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. No holds barred. Full on Peaky Blinders at war,
Tom Harper also expressed his excitement about collaborating with Steven and Cillian.
Recalling his time on the sets of Peaky Blinders, he said,
When I first directed Peaky Blinders over 10 years ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we did know that there was something in the alchemy of the cast and the writing that felt explosive. Peaky has always been a story about family — and so it’s incredibly exciting to be reuniting with Steve and Cillian to bring the movie to audiences across the world on Netflix.
