Dead Island 2's Latest Kill Deck Considered “Even Better” Than A Skill Tree

Dambuster Studios is beyond thrilled with the game’s new skill deck addition to Dead Island 2, calling it one of its “most exciting” features

James Worrall, Creative Director, and Khan, Lead Narrative Designer at Game Informer spoke to NME about the game’s new skill deck system which they said was “even better” than a traditional skill tree. Players can now customize their load-outs in “mid-air”.

Khan responded when questioned about the potential of an upgradeable skill tree in the sequel: “There’s a skill deck… which is even better.”

“The art is amazing, and they’re fun to look at and all of that, but they’re just really fun to play with. Change skills mid-air – you can take off, change a skill, and land with a different loadout and that’s just amazing.”

Creative director James Worrall went on to add, “and you can take some real risks with your loadout as well. It really pays off… and sometimes, [it] goes horribly wrong.”

“After eight years and three studios, Dead Island 2 is pretty much what you get if you Google ‘development hell'”. Dambuster Studios has revitalized the project, and it looks like they are doing an excellent job at getting things up and running again.

The two also touched upon the game’s backdrop, which begins in Los Angeles a decade after the adventures of the initial title. Owing to “the amazing eccentrics and self-confidence of the city”, they teased that LA will be almost like another character as part of your journey.

After eight long years of delays, Dead Island 2 is ready to be released by Dambuster Studios. This much-anticipated game will launch on April 28th, 2023 for the PS4 and PlayStation 5 consoles as well as Xbox One and Series X/S systems. PC players also won’t miss out on this action-adventure title — it’s available for their platform too. Make sure you mark your calendar so that you don’t miss the opportunity to experience all the thrills of Dead Island 2.
