Sanela Dijana Ćatić, who later became known as Diana Jenkins, was born in 1973 in Sarajevo. She grew up in a middle-class family with an economist father and an accountant mother. They lived in a typical Yugoslavian concrete apartment block.
Diana’s younger brother, Irnis, was tragically murdered by Serb soldiers when he was just 21 years old. At that time, Diana was studying economics at the University of Sarajevo. Due to the outbreak of war, she had to flee Bosnia during the Siege of Sarajevo in April 1992. The war was a result of the breakup of Yugoslavia and lasted until December 1995.
After spending over a year in Croatia as a refugee, Diana migrated to London, England. She had to restart her studies at City University, London, but chose to focus on math because it was easier to understand numbers than to master English. Eventually, she graduated with honors with a BSc degree in Computer Science and Economics.
