As a spin-off of On My Block, Freeridge also takes place in the same location. It introduces viewers to new characters who are teenagers working to break a curse. The curse was caused by an old box with magical powers. Season 4 of On My Block ends in May, and Freeridge begins in September.
Freeridge has gotten a good review from 86% of the critics on RottenTomatoes. The Daily Beast said it is a “female-led comedy”. The Hollywood Reporter concluded that Freeridge is a “lighter show than its predecessor” but said “it shares the same empathetic heart” and “playful sense of humor.”
The show has not resonated with fans and critics alike; it currently holds a 5.9 on IMDb and 61% rating from Rotten Tomatoes.

At the moment, Freeridge’s prospects don’t look overly promising. As current figures suggest, it seems difficult to envision how this program will survive on such measurements alone. Nevertheless, could Netflix decrease its requirements if the show achieves certain target demographics? We’ll have to remain patient and see what happens.
We’ve discussed how Netflix formulates its decision to renew or cancel certain shows and series. This analysis takes into account a variety of factors such as completion rates, starters, and cost of production.
Jeremy Haft, one of the series co-creators, expressed his enthusiasm to TVLine about the show’s prospects when he said: “The world of Freeridge is very rich and vibrant, and there are tons of stories to tell. We’ve always had a tiny grain of hope — [co-creator] Lauren Iungerich, [executive producer] Jamie Dooner, Eddie [Gonzalez], and myself — always had a hope that we’d continue the stories of Freeridge. Luckily, and with great gratitude, we say thank you to Netflix for allowing us to continue telling those stories. More to come.”
As an interesting note, Netflix’s method of titling this series is a bit confusing.
How Well does Freeridge Perform on Netflix?
There is a silver lining here: it did rank in the top 10 most-watched series on Netflix. All that said, its introduction was one of the weakest debuts we’ve observed for any of their original series to date; between January 29th and February 5th, 2023 only 8.27 million hours were viewed.
