Once we reach the middle of January, it is all too easy for us to give up on all of those great resolutions we made at the end of December. Whether you have had a glass of wine, eaten some cheese, or you have watched one too many movies already – don’t be disheartened and give up on your healthy goals.
Today we want to take a look at some of the ways that you can help yourself to get fitter in 2022 starting with better habits and activity. The fact is that changing your habits can be a challenge, but with small changes made to your every day routine there is nothing stopping you from reaching your goals.
Here are some of the things you can do to help you become fitter and healthier this January and beyond.
Cut out dairy
Dairy is a food group that can have a huge impact on our bodies. Although on the positive side dairy provides us with calcium that is essential for healthy bones, it is also fatty and can be difficult to digest. If you want to lose a few pounds in January without making huge changes to your diet, cutting out dairy can be a great way to do it. Work towards a leaner way of eating one step at a time.
Wake up and work out
Waking up early and starting your day with a workout can be one of the best habits you can instill in your life. Often, picking the right time in the day to do a workout is the hardest part of staying fit and a lot of us end up putting it off until we don’t do anything at all. Instead of allowing yourself to make excuses throughout the day, it is always better to get up and workout straight away and this will free up your day and ensure you don’t have that niggling feeling that you need to do it.
Try new hobbies
There is a whole world of fun and active hobbies out there that will help you get fit without feeling like you are slogging it at the gym. For example; anything from picking up an Equestrian Mag and starting horse riding to heading down to your local trampoline park can get you fit with extra fun. Try out new things and see what you like, and this can be a great way to get fit as well as discover some new passions you didn’t even know you had.
Eat more lean protein
There is no better way to help you get fit and healthy than to fuel your body with the right stuff. It is so important to use your diet as a springboard for healthier habits and this means replacing those processed foods with fresh ones and getting leaner. Finding lean protein alternatives is always a great way to lose weight – so swapping out fatty beef for Turkey in your next chilli con carne recipe can make all the difference. You can even try to find some veggie alternatives to your favourite meals and this can also be a good way to be more sustainable.
Speaking of veggie – one way to help you lose some timber and get slimmer is to cut out meat altogether. Meat can be fatty, and by cutting this out of your diet for good you will be able to enjoy healthier meals that are still just as tasty without the extra calories. There are so many wonderful ways to enjoy vegetarian and vegan food, and it is important to know that you don’t have to compromise on flavour in order to enjoy the things you love. Find some recipe inspiration online or in magazines and try out some new foods to unlock a world of flavour in a lean way this year.
Walk 10,000 steps
One of the best habits you can instill in your life in 2022 is getting your 10,000 steps a day. With many of us now working from home, it can be difficult for us to get the exercise we need. By the time we are finished working it might be dark outside and this might put you off going for a stroll. However, by taking even 20 minutes out of your day to get up and walking, you’ll be able to keep your heart healthy as well as lose some pounds. Try to hit a goal of 10,000 steps a day and this will soon help you lose some weight and become fitter.
