Background of Hocus Pocus (1993)
It is a story Sanderson sisters from Salem, Massachusetts. They were the most feared witches from 1693, named Winifred, Sarah, and Mary. Before they were executed by the township, the three witches cursed the town.
After centuries, a teenage boy named Max Dennison accidentally brought the witches back to life in 1993. On a Halloween night, by lighting the legendary Black Flame Candle. Now the witches steal vital energy from children to get back their youth.
Max tries to stop this chaos by running against time until sunrise. He takes the help of his sister, one of his friends, and a talking cat that was cursed by the dead witches. He finally manages to send the Sanderson sisters back to their graves, at least until Halloween rings again.
The Sequal Recap – Hocus Pocus 2 (2022)
After twenty-nine years, the witches are again resurrected by the same means of the Legendary Black Flame Candle. Lit again, this time by teenage Becca on her sixteenth birthday. This time also the teenage girl also manages to stop the witches, just as Max did in 1993.
But the defeat of the witches was a dramatic and emotion-heavy climax where Winifred sacrifices both her sisters, i.e., the other two witches, and she’s left alone, devastated. The unity and courage of Becca and her friends shed light on a new coven formation.
And the post-credit scene shows another Black Flame Candle being teased, which hints that the Sanderson sisters may not be gone forever.
