The late actor Matthew Perry’s X account was hacked by an online cryptocurrency site to commit fraud. The profile of the Friends actor includes a link to a foundation in his name. The link was manipulated, and it started directing individuals to fraudulent sites.
Matthew Perry Foundation posted a statement saying,
We have received reports that Matthew’s official X page has been hacked and is directing users to a fraudulent site soliciting donations via cryptocurrency.
The Instagram post has been removed now, and it captioned,
Please do not donate to this site or share the fraudulent posts on social media. MatthewPerryFoundation.org is the only website associated with the Foundation, and we are only accepting donations through this site.
The foundation was established as a tribute to the legacy of the Friends star. It aims to help people struggling with addictions of multiple kinds. Perry was always ready and committed to helping people overcome their addictions. The bio on its official Instagram page mentions “continuing Matthew’s enduring commitment to helping others struggling with the disease of addiction.”
Friends’ Chandler Bing died on October 28, 2023, due to drowning in his home in Los Angeles. According to his autopsy reports, the reason for his death was high levels of ketamine in his blood during the time of his death. It is likely that the actor fell into an unconscious state because of this and drowned as a result. The report also mentioned coronary artery disease and buprenorphine effects as the potential reasons for his death.
Perry was quite vocal about his drug and alcohol addiction and how frequently he had to visit rehabilitation centers, including when he was shooting for Friends. Matthew mentioned in his memoir, titled “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing,” how he struggled and eventually overcame the addiction.
