Lionsgate is officially expanding two of its largest movie franchises, John Wick and Twilight. During the Morgan Stanley media conference, the company’s Vice Chairman, Michael Burns, shared this new update on both franchises during an interaction with the press. He shared that the Twilight franchise will be developed with a new animation angle. Edward and Bella’s fans have not been able to control their emotions since then.
Further, Burns also shared that the second popular franchise, John Wick, will continue to be an action-packed story but on smaller screens. Throughout the four installments of John Wick, from 2014 to 2023, Keanu Reeves plays the titular role of a legendary action hero dragged back into the criminal underworld after his retirement.
Deadline reported during the press conference, Michael Burns said,
We’re going to go out with the Twilight series, an animated series, I think there’ll be a lot of interest in that.
Talking about John Wick, Burns said,
I think we’ll take one of our great action franchises starring Keanu Reeves, I think it’ll be a television series.
It was reported in April 2023 that the Twilight series is about to get a TV adaptation and is in the early stages of development. The newly announced animated series will be based on the book series by Stephenie Meyer. These books were earlier adapted into a whole film franchise, collectively known as “The Twilight saga,” which included five films dropped between 2008 and 2012. The movie franchise, featuring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, grossed more than $5 billion worldwide.
Moreover, the news of a TV adaptation of John Wick comes after the premiere of its prequel and limited series, “The Continental: From the World of John Wick,” which came out on Peacock and Amazon Prime Video in September 2023. It is interesting to note that the Keanu Reeves starrer franchise has received critical acclamation and has grossed more than $1 billion worldwide.
