In a recent interview with a media house, Martin Freeman responded to the fresh controversy regarding Miller’s Girl, wherein he was cast opposite Jenna Ortega. Reportedly, Jenna Ortega is 31 years younger than him.
A Netflix film, it follows the love story of a high school student and her English teacher, who is portrayed by Martin Freeman.
While the film was appreciated for an excellent plot, it was criticised for the huge age difference between the actors: Ortega is 21 while Freeman is 52. A group of netizens appreciated for breaking the stereotypes, and another group criticised for romanticising a love relationship between the minor and those in positions of power.

However, on the other hand, Martin Freeman, while supporting his recent project, Miller Girl, termed the film as “mature and nuanced”.
Talking about his character and Ortega’s role, he said, “It’s not saying, ‘Isn’t this great.”
Additionally, he took Steven Spielberg’s 1993 film Schindler’s List as an example and questioned “Are we gonna have a go at Liam Neeson for being in a film about the Holocaust?”
While owing to the controversy the film garnered popularity, the film wasn’t a hit on the streaming giant, Netflix.
