The Waterfront Season 1 was released on Netflix this 19 June. The series is based on creator Kevin Williamson’s real family and his childhood memories in North Carolina. This criminal drama has been a great hit with the audience. The creator and Netflix might soon announce the return of The Waterfront Season 2.
The Waterfront Season 2 Story & Cast
The story revolves around the Buckley family, who owns a drowning fishing business. One of the Buckley sons, Cane, starts to deal in drugs out of one of the fishing boats. This lands him and the Buckley family in deep trouble with both the Parker family and the local drug smuggler, Grady. Both these competitors have been in the business long time and do not want any newcomers to take over their share of profits.
During the last episodes of the series, we can see that the Buckley and Parker families work together to end Grady’s game in the business. This is when all hell breaks loose; Bree Buckley, along with her son Diller, is caught and held hostage by Grady. He wants to get hold of the ‘big daddy’ Harlan Buckley. Ultimately, Bree is shot but escapes safely with Diller while Grady is finished off and thrown overboard by Cane.

After Grady’s dismissal in the story, the audience will no longer see Topher Grace return in the next season. Jake Weary plays Cane Buckley, Maria Bello plays Belle Buckley, and the Buckley cast also includes Melissa Benoist, Danielle Campbell, and Holt McCallany.
The creator, Williamson, also suggested that we might be seeing some newer Parker family members who might bring in more trouble for the Buckleys. This means that we can expect new characters in Season 2.
The Waterfront Season 1 Performance
The show has gained immense popularity right after its release, paving its way for a second or even a third season, who knows. The Waterfront was on Netflix’s Top 10 list in 90 countries and has also been in weekly top 10s in 86 countries. In this short period since release, The Waterfront has received 25.5 million views, also a 40% increase in viewership in week 2 compared to the first week.
The Waterfront Release Date
The Waterfront Season 1 just released this June on Netflix, and after its huge success, a second season is definitely coming. Creator Kevin has already quoted that they are “paving the way for an equally (evil) new villain next year.”

In another interview with TIME, Kevin said, “The end of the first season feels like it’s still moving because you don’t want it to stop, right? So that’s a good sign, I think, for Season 2. I would like to see it just keep moving. I would like to see the family come together to stave off some universal villain.”
After all this, the audience can rest assured that a season 2 is coming somewhere around next year, if all goes well.
The Waterfront Season 2 Trailer & Where To Watch?
Strong rumours of The Waterfront Season 2 are circulating right after the first season’s release due to its popularity. The dramatic crime story has captured the hearts of the audience globally. A great family drama combined with exhilarating action sequences has made The Waterfront Season 1 a great mid-year Netflix release.
Though there has been no official release date announcement, we are sure it’s going to be soon. Even creator Kevin Williamson sounded confident when he told The Hollywood Reporter that he “went in there pitching three (seasons).”
There is no trailer out for The Waterfront Season 2 yet, but you can check out Season 1’s trailer on Netflix’s official YouTube page. If you haven’t watched it yet, start streaming Season 1 of The Waterfront on Netflix this weekend.
