Best Medicine is an American medical comedy-drama series created by Liz Tuccillo and based on the British TV series Doc Martin. The show is about Dr. Martin Best, a very sharp but blunt surgeon who renounces the trappings of his fancy career in Boston and sets up in the small coastal village of Port Wenn, Maine, where he spent his childhood summers.
Martin inherits a local practice and soon gets drawn into the odd health issues and family dramas of the villagers. He has a solid background in diagnosing complex health issues, but is difficult to reach because of his direct personality and poor bedside manner. Meanwhile, he has a major blood phobia, which has made him the unwilling spectator of surgery and is connected to a childhood trauma.
