Overview
During a meeting with French President Vivienne Toussaint, both governments are already under pressure due to an international political accord. When Dalton's husband, Dr. Alex Anderson, is abducted while on a humanitarian mission in French Guiana, the situation takes a much more dire turn.
Toussaint is blackmailed over a scandal concerning her stepson, Matheo Lewis, at nearly the same time. Threats ensnare both women as a result. The narrative shifts from a kidnapping to a much broader conspiracy including protesters, drug shortages, military leaders, political insiders, and conflicting personal objectives as the crisis worsens.
