Human Vapor is a Japanese-South Korean sci-fi crime thriller series that takes Toho’s 1960 movie The Human Vapor and gives it a totally new story. The show opens with a startling event on live TV, when a guest commentator suddenly swells up and bursts. The one behind it seems to be the mysterious Human Vapor, a man who can turn his body into gas and slip through solid barriers. Before each of a string of murders, he reveals who his targets are, and the police are left baffled about how such crimes can even happen.
Shun Oguri plays Kenji Okamoto, a detective who has been suspended and gets pulled into the case together with reporter Kyoko Kono, played by Yu Aoi. As they dig, the killings slowly tie back to a secret project called White Center and to people who were used and then thrown away by those running it.
