Netflix has been investing heavily in bringing popular anime titles into the live-action realm, with “One Piece” being one of its notable successes in the summer of 2023. This project is particularly ambitious and Kazutaka Sakamoto is at its helm. He was the executive producer behind hits like “Alice in Borderland,” “The Naked Director,” and “Devil Man Crybaby.” Akira Morii is the producer, and Ryo Sakaguchi takes on the role of SFX supervisor. Netflix’s internal studio, Scanline VFX, is working on the visual effects.

Takumi Kitamura is in the leading role of Yusuke Urameshi in “Yu Yu Hakusho.” You might recognize Kitamura from his role as Hanagaki Takemichi in the live-action adaptation of the popular anime and manga series, “Tokyo Revengers.”

A source has reported that Ryusei Yokohoma, Go Ayano, Jun Shison, and Kanata Hongo have been cast in the series alongside Kitamura.

Speaking about the project, Kitamura expressed his excitement, saying, “The original work is a universal and unique masterpiece and a reason why Japan is so proud of its strong manga and anime culture. I am happy to share the masterpiece of ‘Yu Yu Hakusho’ with the world, and I hope we can create something people everywhere will enjoy.”

Filming for “Yu Yu Hakusho” has been ongoing since July 2021. There is no confirmed report that the filming has concluded. The first glimpse of Takumi Kitamura on set as Yusuke was shared in June 2021, building anticipation among fans.
