Call of Duty: Warzone has engaged in a bizarre crossover by launching Homelander, Starlight, and Black Noir as limited time operators. Given the characters of Homelander and Black Noir, the cruelty that most of The Seven represents, is it supposed to be a joke, or a witting attempt at giving birth to controversy?

“The Boys” is known for its subversive take on superheroes where the supe-group The Seven is thoroughly evil, bordering on insane. Homelander, the leader of The Seven, is a character known for his violent tendencies and disturbing behavior, including acts of murder and sexual assault. Black Noir and Starlight, while not matching Homelander’s level of depravity, are still part of a morally compromised team.

The introduction of these characters into a game like Call of Duty: Warzone is hard to explain from a moral point of view. Wouldn’t players be more excited to suit-up as Frenchie or Butcher? Was the inclusion of literal superpowers really necessary for the success of the game? Some are calling it a tone-deaf crossover that completely fails to integrate the essence of The Boys and creates a gimmick instead.

Controversy aside, let’s talk about the features and the powers. The Homelander Operator includes three Tracer Weapon Blueprints, a “Laser Everyone” Finishing Move, and various other cosmetic items. Black Noir Operator features two Tracer Weapon Blueprints, a special melee weapon called “Noir’s Blades,” and exclusive cosmetic items. Starlight Operator offers three Tracer Weapon Blueprints, a distinct Finishing Move, and additional cosmetic items.

In line with what happened in the series, a field upgrade called Temp V has been introduced to level the playing field in a battle against the supe-operators. Temp V grants players four random superpowers: Charge Jump, Electric Shockwave, Laser Vision, and Teleport.
