The Emmy Award-winning American actor and comedian Jack Black, renowned for his portrayal of Dewey Finn in the 2003 movie School of Rocks, talked about his plans for a sequel to the famous musical comedy.
The movie, directed by Richard Linklater, held the title of the highest-grossing music-themed comedy of all time for more than a decade.
Talking about the potential sequel to the movie and answering whether he would like to reprise his role, Black spoke with JOE. He told the media outlet,
I wish there’d be a School of Rock 2 Electric Boogaloo, I’m ready.
The movie School of Rock follows the story of Dewey, who takes on the role of a substitute teacher at a school after being removed from his band. Meanwhile, he tries to form his own rock band with his class. Other actors in the movie include Mike White, Joan Cusack, Adam Pascal, Lucas Papaelias, Chris Stack, Sarah Silverman, and Miranda Cosgrove.
There have been numerous revisits of the movie. Nickelodeon created a TV show based on the movie, which aired for three seasons from 2016 to 2018.
Moreover, Black also said that he would like School of Rock’s original writer, Mike White, to write the script for the hypothetical sequel. However, he did not fail to mention that White, who also acted in the movie as Dewey’s roommate Ned Schneebly, is still working on his Emmy-winning HBO series The White Lotus.
Black said.
You know Mike White wrote the first one and he’s a genius,
And we’d have to have Mike White back in the saddle, but he’s real busy right now with [The] White Lotus, the best show on TV.
The White Lotus, which has recently begun the filming of its third season, consisted of an amazing star cast in the previous seasons, including Jennifer Coolidge, Sydney Sweeney, and Theo James.
