Scottie Maurice Pippen was born on September 25th, 1965, in Hamburg, Arkansas to Ethel and Preston Pippen. He was the youngest of his 12 siblings, and his father worked in a paper mill until he suffered a stroke, which paralyzed his right side. Scottie attended a local high school where he developed a passion for basketball and qualified for the state playoffs. He went on to play for the University of Central Arkansas and was selected in the first draft of the 1987 NBA Draft by the Seattle Supersonics.

He played for 23 minutes, scoring 10 points, making 4 assists, getting 2 steals, and grabbing 1 rebound. The Bulls won the game, and Pippen was able to claim the starting small forward position during the 1988 NBA playoffs, helping the team reach the semi-finals for the first time in ten years.

Pippen emerged as the primary defensive stopper during the 1990-91 season, earning NBA all-defensive second-team honors. He played a key role in the Bulls winning the NBA championships from 1996 to 1998. Pippen was later traded to the Houston Rockets for Roy Rogers and played for the Portland Trailblazers from 1998 to 2003. He then returned to the Bulls before announcing his retirement on October 5, 2004.
