‘They Cloned Tyrone’: A Netflix Movie to Release in 2023 Summer

The highly-anticipated John Boyega and Jamie Foxx movie premiering on Netflix this July 2023

They Cloned Tyrone will feature Star Wars star John Boyega and Django Unchained’s Jamie Foxx. The film is also Creed 2 writer Juel Taylor’s directorial debut. Co-written by Tony Rettenmaier (The Light Thief), this film is expected to hit cinemas in July 2023.

Poppy Hanks, Charles D. King, and their production company Macro, the minds behind Netflix’s Raising Dion, serve as producers for this film. An industry leader in showcasing diverse voices, since its founding in 2015 Macro has earned nine Oscar nominations with one win through a large number of productions.

Netflix announced that They Cloned Tyrone will premiere worldwide on July 21st, 2023 as part of their upcoming movie slate for the year 2023.

The news brought along a captivating new screen from the film.

Initially planned to launch in 2022, They Cloned Tyrone was featured in the original movie preview video for that year.

Netflix announced that the movie was rescheduled, moving beyond 2022 and potentially releasing in 2023. Nevertheless, the New York Times mentioned a December date for 2022 which did not come to fruition.

“A pulpy, sci-fi mystery caper in which an unlikely trio investigates a series of eerie events, alerting them to a nefarious conspiracy lurking directly beneath their hood. Fontaine, a neighborhood drug dealer, is shot dead by rival Isaac and then is very shocked to wake up in his bed the next morning unharmed. He and Slick Charles and Yo-Yo begin looking into the incident, and their search eventually leads them to a vast underground complex where a government – backed lab is performing experiments on the local Black population. Realizing that he is an artificial clone controlled by Nixon, Fontaine initially feels despair, but decides he needs to stand up to these white institutional overlords for the sake of his neighborhood.”

Production Status of They Cloned Tyrone

They Cloned Tyrone’s production officially began on November 9, 2020 in Blackhall Studios located in Atlanta. The filming will last for sometime. There is also anticipated to be location shooting that takes place in Cape Town, South Africa as well.
