Apple Shut Down ‘Dark Sky’ & Now Works on New iPad Pro Models

After being acquired by Apple in March 2020, Dark Sky, the popular iOS weather app, has officially been discontinued. The app was removed from the App Store last September and now will not function for existing users beginning on New Year’s Day 2021. This marks the end of a much-appreciated application that many relied upon to provide accurate weather updates.

According to MacRumors, Apple has taken Dark Sky’s features and integrated them into its Weather app on iOS, iPadOS and macOS. They have even published a support document guiding users on how best to transition from the former to the latter.

If you want to access all the features of Dark Sky in the Weather app, make sure your device is running iOS 16, iPadOS 16, or macOS Ventura. Please be aware that a few capabilities are currently only available to users living in selected countries.

Apple’s new Weather app features an array of impressive capabilities, from hyperlocal forecasts to hourly predictions for the next 10 days and high-resolution radar maps. Additionally, you can access notifications regarding future precipitation or any severe weather warnings in real time. On March 31st 2023 Apple will be replacing Dark Sky’s third-party API with their own trusted WeatherKit API.

Word has it that Apple is currently crafting two new OLED iPad Pro models slated to hit the market in early 2024. According to MacRumours, these advanced iPads will be accompanied by an all-new iPad Mini as well. Get ready for a whole new world of iPad Pro experience.

If the report is accurate, then it will be Apple’s first time ever increasing the size of iPad Pro models. To do this they must reduce the screen bezel to make room for a larger display. In October 2022 we saw Apple upgrade their 11-inch and 12.3-inch iPad Pros with an added M2 chipset that increased performance even more than before.
