Aardman Animation’s long-awaited sequel, “Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget,” finally approaches its Netflix release date. The film is expected to hit the screens of Netflix subscribers in December 2023. It is a follow-up to the beloved 2000 animated comedy “Chicken Run.”

Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget is directed by Sam Fell. He’s known for his work on animated gems like Flushed Away and ParaNorman. The screenplay of the film is a product of collaboration among Karey Kirkpatrick, John O’Farrell, and Rachel Tunnard. It draws inspiration from the rich world of characters originally created by Peter Lord and Nick Park.

Aardman Animations have joined forces with Pathé to bring the poultry-packed adventure to life. The film was first announced in April 2018. Netflix stepped in to distribute the movie in June 2020. The production began in 2019 and concluded in April 2023.

Netflix officially confirmed the global release date: December 15, 2023 at the Annecy Film Festival 2023. Director Sam Fell expressed his excitement, saying, “It’s great to be back at Annecy, especially to share a first look at Aardman’s new baby – Dawn of the Nugget. We’ve poured every bit of technical and creative know-how we’ve learned over 40 years of filmmaking into her. She’s a chip off the old block from an amazing predecessor – we love her to bits and are so excited to show her to the world.” Here’s the teaser trailer for you to check out.

Sam Fell revealed some images from the film and it was revealed that Mrs. Tweedy, who apparently blew up in the first film, is making a return. Here’s what Fell has to say about it,

They say a movie is only as good as its villain and Ginger’s nemesis, Mrs Tweedy is one of the all-time greats. Now she’s out to take industrial-scale revenge on all chicken-kind with the Dawn of the Nugget. We’ve had so much fun working with Miranda Richardson to transform Melisha Tweedy into the ultimate 1960’s super-villain. Miranda has a unique understanding of drama and comedy, making you laugh while scaring the pants off you in the exact same moment.
