The 28th Critics Choice Award presented in California has apparently given birth to another controversy. Ariana DeBose’s fans are slamming Sunday night’s event presenters, Bella Ramsey and Anthony Ramos, for making a joke. During the presentation of the Best Song category award, they mentioned “some of the most famous voices in the music industry who are all fire; we love them all” and named Billie Eilish, Lenny Kravitz, and Dua Lipa. However, Ramsey added, “Then there are the actors who also think they’re singers: Jack Black, Ariana DeBose, and, Ken himself, Ryan Gosling.”
The camera then cut to the prime-time Emmy-nominated American actress Ariana DeBose, who seemed surprised and puzzled by the statement, though not evidently upset. Many viewers did not like the mention of DeBose’s name, given that her acting and singing performance in West Side Story made her an Oscar award winner. The critics also did not fail to mention that the joke seemed like a scripted one read directly from the teleprompter and not written by 20-year-old Ramsey herself.

32-year-old DeBose took to her Instagram story and said, “No, I didn’t find it funny. Lol.” The infuriated fans also did not miss the opportunity to express their feelings on X. Many fans wrote angry tweets and highlighted the fact that DeBose is an Academy Award winner and Ramsey should know her limits.
The way they insulted Ariana DeBose?!?! Calling her an actress who thinks she can sing. Girl. GIRL!!!!! I’m sorry, you said that about someone from the OG cast of Hamilton? Google someone before you approve the joke omg #CriticsChoice

#ArianaDeBose #CriticsChoiceAwards I won’t blame young Bella, the presenter…but how DARE a writer for the intro label Ariana, a Broadway triple threat, with the smarmy category of “actors who think they can sing.”
