John Oliver Ridicules Nancy Pelosi’s “Tic-Tac-Toe” Remarks On TikTok Bill

Comedian and television host John Oliver took a jibe at the remarks made by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday. The Emmy-winning host mocked Pelosi on HBO’s Last Week Tonight on Sunday.

While talking about the TikTok bill, Pelosi, the Democratic representative from California, said,

This is not an attempt to ban TikTok. It’s an attempt to make TikTok better. Tic-tac-toe, a winner. A winner.

Not only did she say this, she made gestures with her hand, showing a diagonal win referencing the tic-tac-toe game.

Earlier, the US House of Representatives passed a bill making it mandatory for ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, to sell its stake or face a ban on the app in the United States. The lawmakers passed the bill after concern arose about the company’s ties with the Chinese government. Further, this was considered a national threat, as China could demand the personal information of US citizens. The bill has yet to receive approval from the Senate.

Responding to Pelosi’s remarks, Oliver said,

I’m curious. Is it a rule that, to be in Congress, you have to be one of the weirdest motherf*ckers to ever live?

Meanwhile, John Oliver, who is seen mocking Britain’s royal family quite often, also made a statement in reference to the ongoing controversy related to the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton. On Sunday’s episode, Oliver only said one line about the royal family. As the show began, he said,

A certain someone’s Adobe free trial expired in a pretty public manner.

Previously, John Oliver talked about the Photoshop-related debate on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen. When Cohen asked him his opinion, he said,

There’s a nonzero chance she died 18 months ago. They might be Weekend at Bernie’s-ing this situation.
