Longmire’s Future: Season 7 or a Movie?

Longmire's Future: Season 7 or a Movie?

Based on best-selling American author Craig Allen Johnson’s novel series “Walt Longmire Mysteries,” the Longmire TV series premiered in 2012. The series of novels by Craig Johnson consists of 20 books that were published from 2004 to 2018. The crime mystery series showcases Walt Longmire and his adventures during his journey investigating major crimes in America. The series has come a long way, taking some turnarounds and hurdles. The 6th season of the TV series ended in November 2017. Longmire gained huge popularity from its start. The first 3 seasons were produced by A&E, and it became the “highest-rated original drama series” on A&E. The A&E network admitted that Longmire is its “most-watched original drama series of all time.”

Reasons for A&E’s demise and Netflix’s acquisition

In spite of all this fame, in 2014, after completing the third season, A&E dropped the series. A&E announced, “We would like to thank the phenomenal cast, crew and producers of Longmire, along with our partners at Warner Horizon, for their tireless work on three seasons of quality dramatic storytelling. We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved together.” A&E dropped the show because it appeals to older viewers with a median age of 60. Also, it doesn’t have an ownership stake in the show.  A senior vice president at Magna Global, Brian Hughes, said, “The networks are all trying to be younger and have edgy shows that attract a lot of attention.”

Then, Netflix picked up Longmire and began the next season. Fans get to watch another 3 seasons of their favourite show, but after the end of season 6, Netflix has officially ended Longmire, and there is no announcement on whether there will be the next season of this American crime drama. So, unfortunately, there won’t be a seventh season.

Plot of Longmire

Robert Taylor played the main character of Sheriff Walt Longmire in the show, and Walt’s deputy Victoria was played by Katee Sackhoff, along with Lou Diamond Phillips in the cast of Walt’s friend Henry and Cassidy Freeman as Walt’s daughter Cady. The timeline starts a year after the mysterious death of Walt’s wife. We saw the suspense and thrill of Walt’s life as a police officer at Absaroka. With the help of his friend Henry, Walt solves some cases in the town. The plot develops as, through the path of investigation, Walt starts to discover the truth behind his wife’s death and the secrets in his both personal and professional lives come to light. Walt was hiding the fact from his daughter that her mother was murdered. But, eventually, everyone came to know that Walt’s wife was murdered and that the murderer was also dead. In the investigation, Walt’s friend Henry was considered a suspect for killing the murderer of Walt’s wife to get revenge.

Ending of season 6

A perfect conclusion to the last season: In the final season, we witness a jam-packed confrontation between Walt and the two big obstacles in his life, which are the Irish mob and the Malachi Stand. After the brain and brawl clash, we find Malachi dead. At the end of Longmire season 6, the extended finale episode “Goodbye is Always Implied” connected all the loose ends, and Walt retired from the post of sheriff, and his daughter Cady took on the role of sheriff. Walt and Vic decided to live together and support each other as it was clear that both of them could not fully recover from the loss of their loved ones- for Walt, his lost wife and for Vic, her miscarried child – “I’ll never love you as much as my child and you’ll never love me as much as your wife.”

The reaction of the crew members towards the final season

Cast reactions throughout the voyage: According to the Deadline Report, the show’s executive producers Greer Shephard, Hunt Baldwin and John Coveny jointly said “We are grateful to Netflix for the opportunity to compose a closing chapter for these beloved characters that inspires lasting memories. Most importantly, we’re committed to delivering a dynamic and satisfying conclusion to our fans that rewards their longtime loyalty.”

Phillips Lou Diamond, who portrays the Henry Standing Bear show stated in the Cowboys & Indians magazine that “closure and satisfaction” will come in the final season, saying that he was happy that the show would come to an end on Netflix instead of traditional network TV. “Airing on Netflix [after the original run on A&E] has given us the opportunity for longer stories and deeper story lines, as we’re not constricted by the traditional 48-minute episode length,” Phillips mentioned in the same interview.

The opportunity to film for the last season of Longmire is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the actors. Vic’s cast Katee Sackhoff, told CinemaBlend. “Some kind of performer with this lovely capacity to do what you always want and you do not usually have the chance to do that is kind of leaving it all on the floor since we knew it was our final season,” she says.

For viewers, the fact that this programme was able to reach the expected conclusion is truly a testament. After the programme was picked up by Netflix, Robert Taylor, who plays the show’s titular character, told Parade magazine that he was astonished by the outpouring of support for viewers following the cancellation of A&E. “It’s just been so inspiring and resilient and inventive, and the whole thing is humbling actually that there’s that many people that just really connect with the show and want to see it keep going” Taylor added the program had an outstanding run.

What can possibly be unveiled in Longmire season 7?

Future of Longmire – Season 7 or a movie?: Even though Netflix officially concluded season 6 of Longmire as the final season, fans continue to hope that they will get to see the story continue. So, what can be unveiled in Longmire season 7? Based on the novels, Walt Longmire has more adventures in his life which can be the plot for the next season. At the end of the TV series, we see Walt retire as a sheriff, but that doesn’t mean that Walt’s journey ends. His hanging Sheriff badge could also mean that there are other ways for him to contribute to society. It is speculated that Walt would carry his own investigation on crimes that happen in the county. In that case, he would be working independently and he would set his own rules. There’s also the fact that he and Vic have decided to live together. A new season of Longmire would be great to explore the lives of these two characters together. Vic can also play a much more important role in the next season to fulfil the legacy of Walt. Even though the TV series has ended, there are rumors of a Longmire movie. Early, Robert Taylor revealed that a Longmire movie is being discussed, the details of which have yet to be confirmed. However, no update of the program is still available after 4 years, following the last season. But, who knows? when a surprise might show up.
