The Platform 2 – The Most Popular Spanish Film on Netflix to Have a Sequel

The bone chilling Spanish horror-thriller The Platform had 56 million views in the first four weeks of its release in 2020. A vertical prison with two inmates on each floor and a singular platform of food that travels from top to bottom giving the inmates 2 minutes to eat.

A unique concept, a commentary on social hierarchy and greed, and stunning execution, made this the most successful Spanish film ever on Netflix. For all those who enjoyed The Platform, a sequel of the movie is currently in the making as per a tweet by Netflix.

While we do not know anything about the plot line of the sequel, we can expect the same premise and the focus could be on the rebellion of the inmates against the authorities that run the vertical prison.

Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia is returning as the director. Basque Films will produce the films with Carlos Juárez and Raquel Perea in charge of production. Both of them were involved in the production of The Platform.

As far as we know, no actor from the original film is reprising their role in the sequel, The Platform 2. The names of only two cast members have been revealed – Milena Smit and Hovik Keuchkerian. It is going to be Milena Smit’s first Netflix movie. Earlier, she’d worked in the Netflix series The Girl in the Mirror.

Hovik Keuchkerian is well known for his role of Bogota in Money Heist. He was part of the crew that robbed the Bank of Spain. He also featured in the 2016 live action adaptation of Assassin’s Creed.

There has been no official announcement as to the release of The Platform 2. The logical guess would be early 2024 or late 2023 if fans are lucky.
